Dear Resident
Keeping people safe in the Night-Time Economy was the focus of an Operation Sun deployment on Friday 28 August 2026 in Scarborough.
Police, working together with other partners, including the Rough Sleeper Team, the Rainbow Centre, St Giles Trust and the Street Angels were on dedicated patrol to engage with vulnerable people, address offending behaviours and to provide a visible reassurance to those planning to start their bank holiday weekend in Scarborough Town Centre.
Parking the Beat Bus on St Nicholas Street allowed officers to speak to revellers passing between pubs, to raise awareness of the Ask for Angela scheme, Claire’s Law, drink spiking and how to request support for domestic abuse.
Community Safety Officer PC Scott Sunderland said; “The engagement at the Beat Bus was very well received. Even though the information wasn’t directly relevant to some of those we spoke to, it was information which could be passed on to family members.”
The team were also joined by the force’s Licensing Sergeant who joined together with visits to local licensed premises to discuss concerns about the selling of single cans of alcohol, using the Challenge 25 scheme and to hear any concerns raised by the premises around anti-social behaviour.
The patrols were conducted through the side streets, alleyways and into the populated areas.
PC Sunderland said; These focussed and dedicated patrols are in addition to the regular patrols and operations. By joining together with other partners, we are finding the right safeguarding team to lead, ensuring the person we are speaking to, is getting the best service we can provide.”
